Experience the Thrill of “Tarik Upih”
The highlight of the carnival is undoubtedly the Pertandingan Tarik Upih, scheduled for 6 June 2026 at 9:30 AM. For those unfamiliar with this charming Malaysian tradition, Tarik Upih involves a racer pulling a teammate who sits on the “upih”—the naturally fallen dried flower sheath of a betel nut palm.
It is a race that requires strength, balance, and a lot of laughter. For international tourists, it offers a rare, authentic glimpse into village-style (Kampung) entertainment that has survived the digital age.
Event Details:
- Competition Date: 6 June 2026 (Saturday)
- Time: 9:30 AM
- Venue: Kompleks Kraf Langkawi
- Participation: FREE (Open to Malaysian Citizens)
- Team Format: Teams of 2 (1 Adult 15+ & 1 Child 12 below)

A Feast for the Senses: Bazaar and Heritage
Even if you aren’t competing, the carnival (open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM) is a paradise for shoppers and culture enthusiasts. The bazaar features MYCRAFT stalls and Karyaneka selections, where you can find high-quality hand-drawn batik, intricate wood carvings, and woven crafts unique to the region.
For international visitors, this is the perfect opportunity to meet the makers. Witness live demonstrations of craft-making and bring home a piece of Langkawi that isn’t just a souvenir, but a story of heritage.
